Membership Meeting & Updates

Dear Membership –

The Membership meeting for this quarter was originally planned for tomorrow evening, Monday, April 27th. However, with the upcoming changes to “large group” meetings coming out, we feel it is best to delay this meeting.

Key Points for you to know:

  • The next membership meeting will be Virtual, with a phone call in number for those who don’t like technology, and a video conference who want to see my cute dog in my lap. It will probably be early May.
  • The board will need some time to review the new restrictions and put a plan in place.
  • The club IS currently in a “vacation” state, as per the usual winter break or summer break. If you are a key holder, you may go in, however, the building is very much use at your own risk. There are no promises of paper supplies, soap, courses set, and the cleaning crew has been wisely not cleaning the building.
  • Expect a notification when the building will be CLOSED coming soon so that proper cleaning can be done.
  • If we should happen to get a week of sunny days (spring in Ohio?!?!?) the roofers have made plans to come replace our roof.
  • All trials that have been canceled have been listed on the club website calendar. Some of the secretaries have also been posting them on the “Friends of” gem city Facebook group, however, as always, this is a public group and restricted to our members, and not everyone has Facebook. Please double check via our official website when in doubt.

With the massive effort of every business to reassure that they are doing everything in their power to be safe, I chose not to add to the email chaos by emailing over and over every time a trial canceled. As president and webmaster, I was completely swamped for the first whole month with negative and disappointing news. I simply did not want to add to that chaos with more bad news, which, unfortunately, was all I had to report. I am very much looking forward to us being able to come out of this, and I am interested to see how the new landscape looks. I cannot hope to expect that all of our instructors will be willing to risk their lives to teach classes in a semi-crowded building, so brace yourselves for limited class offerings for a time.

I pray that you are all well. I have heard wonderful stories of dog friends checking on dog friends, I have seen wondrous and amazing videos posted with dogs learning new tricks. I want to continue to encourage all of this!

I am always happy to personally review applications for Trick Dog Titles from the AKC. Please just review their guidelines and let me know where to find your video.

Volunteer(s) Needed!

Two volunteers are needed to treat/spray the moss growing on the white brick wall of the building near the entrance (Northcutt) and over toward the front corner of the building.  The club has a container if Wet and Forget.  The job would entail carefully reading the label, taking all necessary precautions,  purchasing a small hand sprayer, and any necessary protective equipment, (mask and gloves), deciding the best time, in the near future, to treat the moss, and using the large ladder, to accomplish the project.  Email myeltneb@aol.com for a photo of the Wet and Forget label and to volunteer for the job. Kathy Roberts will reimburse the volunteers for necessary purchases.  Double hours apply.

Trials Postponed

Two of our upcoming trials have been postponed pending new dates. At this time, no new dates have been selected.

The Miami Valley Sheltie Club AKC Agility Trial set for March 28-29th has been postponed.

The WCRL Rally trial sponsored by CCC set for April 4-5th has also been postponed.

Class session 2 canceled

Due to the extreme circumstances from the COVID-19 outbreak, the current class session has been completely canceled. Refunds for PayPal payments will be issued automatically, Checks will be shredded, and vouchers will be credited.

At this time, Session 3 is unpredictable. Watch for future emails on when we will be able to open for regular business again.

THE CLEANING CREW IS NO LONGER CLEANING THE BUILDING. Use at your own risk!!

Because of the unpredictability of the future, many of our trials are expected to cancel. Again, the website event calendar will be updated as I receive clear confirmation of cancellations. Please do not continue to ask questions on the facebook page, as it is a public forum where any may read it. If you truly feel the need to ask questions, contact me at webadmin@gcdoc.com

Until we are able to safely play with our dogs together again, please take care of your family, furry and otherwise.

Building use during class suspension

There have been some questions about building usage during the Class suspension. Please do treat it like Christmas or Summer break. The building is open to small groups when it is not in use or being set up for trials and cleaning. For safety reasons, we do ask that you practice with a friend or two. When uncertain, as always, please check the calendar on the website, it will be kept accurate and as up to date as possible, however, I will not be sending out emails every time it is busy.

Please be respectful of the cleaning supplies at the building. The cabinet in the ladies restroom holds all the supplies we have, and the trials at this point are not being canceled. WE NEED THOSE SUPPLIES FOR THOSE TRIALS. When ever possible, please bring your own hand sanitizer and/or gloves with you.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time. Please stay safe and respect that not everyone may be as healthy as you.

Classes Canceled!!

Due to the recent announcement from the Governor of Ohio declaring that all large group meetings of 100 people are more are banned, and the fact that we regularly have 100 people in and out of our building every day, we feel it best that we suspend classes for the time being.

At this time we are unclear on how long the suspension will last, and what actions we will take to “make right” any payments made for classes. Please be patient with us while we protect our families first, and make non-life threatening choices later.

Instructors – Please call your students and let them know that we are suspending classes for the time being, with more information to follow.
Thursday evening instructors– please cancel classes if you are available to do so, if not, please run your classes and inform them that future classes are suspended.

For questions/concerns on class refunds or for requesting a refund, please email: Gcdocpayments@gmail.com
Please DO NOT email if you just want a credit. Credits will automatically be given to those who do not wish a refund.

With regret,

Chris Kiefer – President, Gem City Dog Obedience Club
