Greetings Gem City Dog Obedience Club,
November 23rd is only a few days away and it is time for final details for
Parade-Day assembly and participation.
Rosa Delk and her German Shepherd will be checking in with the Parade
organizers for Gem City. Please see her to get volunteer hours for
marching. Tell Rosa how many dogs and people you have brought to March. We
need 2 people to carry the banner. People without dogs are welcome. You
get hours for your waiting time. Please arrive well before 7:45 so Rosa has
time to write down your info and put away her clipboard prior to marching.
Marching in the parade is fun, and a great socialization experience for your
dog. Bring treats to help him/her behave in a distracting environment.
Unfortunately the parade environment might not be right for all dogs.
Although the will put floats between the dogs and the marching bands, the
parade is still a noisy place with loud music and bright (sometimes
flashing) holiday lights. Dogs afraid of this type of environment should be
left home.
Dress yourself and your dog in holiday attire/bling and lights. Bring as
many dogs as you can handle, bring family members to walk your dogs. Dress
warm!
Please note these important planning times:
4:00 PM
. All staging areas will be closed to general traffic and will be
accessible to Parade Entrants only.
7:00 PM
. All units should be in their proper Parade Position within the
staging area.
7:45 PM
. The Parade will officially begin as the lead unit moves from Second
and Ludlow streets.
And these general points:
. Please remember this is an evening parade, so the more festive and
lit-up your unit is, the better!
. Gem City Dog Obedience Club’s Parade Unit Number is 9. A location
marker with this number will be set in the staging area to indicate your
specific assembly point.
. Although Wilkinson Street is normally one-way northbound; some
segments of the street near the staging area will be Southbound and/or
closed to general traffic.
. Because of potential danger to spectators, throwing candy, trinkets,
etc. from any parade vehicle is strictly prohibited.
. Proper unit spacing and parade pace is critical for timing and
spectator enjoyment so, voluntarily stopping for formation drills, reverse
marching and other demonstrations by bands and drill teams cannot be
allowed.
And don’t forget…the Dayton Children’s Parade happens regardless of the
weather.
